For families
Talk about the tool before using it.
A parent’s concern doesn’t remove a child’s need for privacy. Be clear about what you’re reviewing and why.
For parents
Decide what would justify a check-in and what you’d do if the app misunderstood a message. Explain those decisions to your child. Reading a concerning phrase is the start of a question, not enough evidence for a conclusion.
For young people
You should know what information is being reviewed and who can see it. You should also be able to explain missing context. Being LGBTQIA+ or questioning your identity must never be treated as a concern or disclosed by the app.
Keep the agreement current.
Revisit the arrangement as your child gets older or your circumstances change. A tool should help you handle a specific concern, not become an unexamined reason to read everything.
